Grain size of austenitic stainless steel plate, tube, pipe , and bar
(1) Austenitic stainless steel grain size (304/304L, 316/316L, 317L, 904L, etc.)
The finer the grain size of austenitic stainless steel and the finer the microstructure after annealing, the better the strength, plasticity, and toughness of the steel. The martensite obtained after quenching is also small, and the toughness is improved. The grain size of austenite under a specific heat treatment or processing condition is called the actual grain size. The grain size at the end of austenitization is called the initial grain size, where the grains are fine and uniform. Usually, after heating the steel to 930 ± 10 ℃ for austenitization, efforts are made to retain the austenite grains to the essential grain size measured at room temperature. Used to measure the tendency of austenite grain growth during steel heating. Essentially coarse-grained steels with grain sizes ranging from 1 to 4, and inherently fine-grained steels with grain sizes ranging from 5 to 8. The former has a greater tendency for grain growth, while the latter has a smaller tendency for grain growth.
(2) Factors affecting the grain size of austenitic stainless steel pipes (304H 316H 347H 310H etc.)
Firstly, the higher the heating temperature, the longer the holding time → the larger the grain size. Secondly, as the carbon mass fraction increases, the tendency for grain growth increases, and adding alloys is beneficial for obtaining essentially fine grained steel.
